Robert Millar

Born 1958, Inducted 2003

Robert Millar is Britain's most successful cyclist in professional stage races. His name will be forever associated with the Tour de France because of his achievements in 1984, when he finished fourth and won the 'King of the Mountains' contest.

In 1985 and 1986 he finished second in the Vuelta des Espana; his 1985 feat is particularly remarkable as it was accomplished without the support of team-mates, who had all previously dropped out. He was also the runner-up in the 1987 Giro d'Italia - a race second only to the Tour de France in prestige - winning 'King of the Mountains' in the process.

He also competed in the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton in the Road Race, finishing 23rd.
