Weightlifting
Weightlifting has been included in the Commonwealth Games programme every year since 1950.
Weightlifting consists of two lifts executed in a standard order: first the snatch and then the clean and jerk. Each athlete has the right to three attempts for each movement. Athletes within each weight category are required to complete lifts in both movements. The athlete’s best performance in both movements is added together to determine the final placement within the competition. If two athletes have an equal total, the athlete with the lower bodyweight will be placed higher.
The weightlifting event is contested by both men and women.
The weightlifting competition will be held in accordance with the rules of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) - www.iwf.net
Weightlifting will feature on the sports programme for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
