Our Board

Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS) is the trading name of Commonwealth Games Scotland Ltd, a company limited by guarantee, established to represent and promote the best interests of Scottish sport at Commonwealth level.

CGS is managed by a Council comprising of representatives of member sports who meet twice a year at an AGM in May and at a half yearly meeting in November.

Every four years they elect an Executive Board, who are appointed as Directors and manage the affairs of CGS. They are appointed for a two or four year period from the year immediately after each Commonwealth Games.

Following a Special General Meeting of the Council in March 2011, it was agreed that the make-up of the Board would be changed at the AGM in May 2011, to reflect the needs of the organisation going forwards. The Board now consists of a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Immediate Past Chairman and four Executive members appointed by member sports. sportscotland the national agency for sport is also invited to send an observer to the Board, as has been the practice for a number of Games cycles.

In addition the Board was granted the power to co-opt up to four specialist positions including a Director of Finance, Director of Marketing & Communications, and Director of Corporate Governance & Compliance. An Athlete Representative, Honorary Medical Adviser and Honorary Legal Adviser will continue to be appointed in an advisory capacity. All these positions have recently been appointed following an open recruitment process during autumn 2011.

The CGS Patron is Sir Peter Heatly, and there are four life members, George Hunter, David Webster, Stewart Coghill and Douglas Brown.

A sub-group of the Board are also appointed to the Commonwealth Games Scotland Youth Trust, a separate charitable trust and the Chairman and Immediate Past Chairman are appointed to the Board of Glasgow 2014 Ltd.

Representatives also attend meetings of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and European Regional Group of the CGF to help direct strategy and policy of the parent body.
