Team Management & Support Staff
In line with Commonwealth Games Scotland policy, all general team management posts including, two deputy general team managers, a media officer and five medical staff were appointed following an open recruitment process. The General Team Manager post is filled by a member of the CGS professional staff and the sports governing bodies nominated their team officials. The Isle of Man staff appointed were:
General Team Management
General Team Manager - Vicky Strange
Occupation: Head of Sport Competition, Glasgow 2014 Ltd.
Prior to joining Glasgow 2014 in June, Vicky was the Games Team Operations Manager for Commonwealth Games Scotland and was the General Team Manager for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. She was the sport manager for the 2006 Commonwealth Games Team Holding Camp and in 2002 was the Assistant Consultant on the independent Team review. She is a former Area Institute Manager for Tayside & Fife.
Assistant General Team Manager - Elinor Middlemiss
Occupation: Games Team Operations Mangers, Commonwealth Games Scotland
Elinor brings a wealth of experience to the role, as a former elite athlete, coach and now administrator, along with a great passion for the Games. She is a five times Commonwealth Games representative in badminton (1986-2002) winning bronze in the women's doubles in 1998 and in the team event in 2002. Prior to joining CGS Elinor worked for sportscotland as Programme and Services Manager with the East of Scotland Institute of Sport. She was also a mentor on the Achieve 2014 programme for Delhi 2010.
Assistant General Team Manager - Gail Niven
Occupation: Sports Participation Co-ordinator, School of Sport, University of Stirling
After graduating with a degree in Physical Education, Gail joined the School of Sport at the University of Stirling as a Graduate Assistant and completed her M.Ed. degree in 1998. Since then Gail has developed her research interest in physical education alongside her contribution to the academic programme. Her academic work is balanced with her teaching role in the Sports Development Service where her duties include widening opportunities for students, staff and members of the local community.
Office Manager - Catherine Goodfellow
Occupation: Office Administrator, Commonwealth Games Scotland
Catherine was a member of General Team Management at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi and in 2002 and 2006 she was a member of staff for Scotland House. Prior to joining CGS she was a Partnership Manager with sportscotland working with a range of sports including curling, equestrian and lawn bowls. She is a Board member of Scottish Disability Sport.
Media Officer - Stuart Mackenzie
Occupation: Media Officer, sportscotland
Trained as a journalist, Stuart has worked at a number of major sporting events including The Open Golf and was a media Officer at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. He works on a day to day basis with Scottish governing bodies of sport.
Head of Medical Services / Head Doctor - Dr David Pugh
Occupation: Sports Medicine Physician
A freelance Sports Medicine Physician, David was formerly the full-time team doctor for Celtic Football Club. He was a Scotland Team Doctor for the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games and supported Triathlon at the 2002 Games. He has travelled extensively with sports teams in the UK and abroad.
Team Doctor - Dr Stephen Boyce
Occupation: Specialist Registrar Sports & Exercise Medicine, Consultant in Emergency Medicine
Stephen is a Specialist Registrar in Sport & Exercise Medicine on the Scottish National Training Scheme and a Consultant in Emergency Medicine (A&E). His sports medicine experience includes working with the Scottish Women’s football team, sportscotlsnd Institute of Sport, Scottish Athletics and British Universities. Stephen also competes in many endurance sports including hill running, ultra running, cycling, mountain biking, triathlon and orienteering."
Head Physiotherapist - Lesley Dawson
Occupation: Physiotherapist
Lesley was a Scotland team physiotherapist at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games. She has worked extensively with the sport of shooting at GB level.
Team Physiotherapist- Linda Hardy
Occupation: Physiotherapist
Linda works full-time with the sportscotland institute of sport where she is lead physiotherapist for gymnastics and athletics.
Team Physiotherapist - Kirstin Carroll
Occupation: Physiotherapist
Kirstin works with some of the Tayside and Fife Institute of Sport Athletes in Dundee. She has worked at European and World championships with the Scottish Women’s Hockey Team and for past three years worked for the Scottish Rugby Union Club International Team. She is a former junior Scottish hockey internationalist.
