Scotland's Highlights

Sport by Sport

Lawn Bowls
Scotland was immediately successful in the Visually Impaired Singles with Lawson Brand matching Richard Corsie’s Singles Gold.  Also successful in winning Scotland’s first Women’s Bowls Gold medal were Sarah Gourlay and Frances Whyte in the Pairs.  Sarah’s medal giving the Gourlay household a golden pair to match with husband David’s Gold in 1982.  Son David Junior was also competing in these Games.

Boxing
Boxing continued its golden run through Paul Sheppard whilst Silver and Bronze support was given from John Wilson and Joe Townsley respectively.

Shooting
Alister Allan singed off his Commonwealth Games career collecting his final medals making him Scotland’s most medalled athlete of all times with 10.  Shirley McIntosh also took individual Gold and joined Patricia Littlechild for a Pairs Silver.  Ian Marsden with new partner Mike Thomson had to settle for Bronze after his Auckland Gold.

Athletics
Completing a hat-trick of consecutive Games medals was Geoff Parson in the High Jump who won Bronze and was joined by fellow 1986 and 1990 medallist Yvonne Murray.  Yvonne’s joyous victory in the 10,000m meant Scotland had won this event every Games since its inception in 1986.

Aquatics
Swimming got back on the medal trail through Fraser Walker with a Bronze in the 200m Individual Medley.

Wrestling
Wrestling won two Bronze medals with Graeme English repeating his Edinburgh Bronze medal effort eight years later after Wrestling’s absence from the 1990 Games.
