Fundraising

It costs in the region of £1,000,000 to prepare and take a team to the Commonwealth Games every four years and £80,000 for the Commonwealth Youth Games.

Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS) relies on funding from its major public sector supporter sportscotland, commercial partners and is also an active fundraiser. In addition CGS also receives support for team preparations from the Commonwealth Games Endowment Trust. However, the success of the team also depends on the collective resources to the whole of Scottish sport.

In 2011/12, CGS received £125,000 from sportscotland to support its day to day operations.

Over recent years CGS and Team Scotland have benefited from the support of a range of excellent commercial partners including Clydesdale Bank, Emirates Airline and the Leadership Trust.

For the period from 2011 leading up to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, we have entered into a joint marketing agreement with the Organising Committee whereby the commercial sponsors of the Games will become sponsors of CGS and Team Scotland.

Our main fundraising activity takes place each year around our Annual Sports Awards Dinner in the autumn, where we celebrate success and raise funds for the Commonwealth Games Scotland Youth Trust. We also work closely with the charity Scottish Sports Aid. Both organisations work to raise funds to support talented young Scottish sportsmen and women through scholarships and awards.
