In 2010, the Games return to Asia for the second time and to the most populous country in the Commonwealth - India, for the first time. The city of Delhi is being redeveloped to welcome the Commonwealth.
If the display in the 2006 Closing Cermony is anthing to go by, the Delhi 2010 Opening Ceremony on 3 October 2010 will be spectacular and unlike anything ever seen before. At these Games, Archery makes a return for the first time since 1982, whilst Tennis will make its debut. Wrestling also returns, with Basketball and Triathlon dropped from the 2006 programme.
The Games will be held over a ten day period from 3 - 14 October 2010 and the following 17 sports will participate: Archery, Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Elite Athletes with Disability (EAD) Events, Gymnastics, Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby 7s, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting, Wrestling.
Weather wise in October, Delhi experiences mean termperatures from a minimum of 17 degrees to a meximum of 31 degrees centigrade with humidity ranging from 31-78%.
Preparations for the Scottish Team to compete are well underway with general Selection Policy developed and sports specific policies being developed. Staff recruitment will begin in early 2009. |
