The Commonwealth Games Council For Scotland

The performance at each Commonwealth Games is the result of many, many hours hard work for the athletes and Games Council. What seems to happen once every four years involves talent, dedication, planning and money. While not everyone can compete in the Games, there are ways everyone can take part.

Scotland has competed in every Games since 1930 and has always been able to meet the challenge of fielding proud and successful athletes as the number of sports, countries and competitors have expanded. However, as this process is getting more and more costly, we need to look at new ways in which we can ensure local heroes become national heroes. Our aim is to ensure all athletes who meet the tight selection standards can compete knowing they have had the best preparation behind them. You may have felt pride in seeing the Saltire raised, know an athlete in your community who has made it against the odds, or have had a family member who has proudly represented their country who you want to remember. You may yourself have previously competed at a Games, and knowing it was the best experience of your life, want others to get the same feeling.

Whilst we do have some agency and sponsor support, these do not cover all our costs or enable us to support our athletes in the way they deserve. There are many ways in which you can help – not all cost money. Messages of support direct to CGCS email [email protected] are gratefully received. All contributions, big and small are welcomed and needed. In return you will receive a regular newsletter updating you on our preparations and the knowledge you have played a part in the success of the Team
