READY STEADY TEXT And one lucky person could even end up giving their support to the Scottish team in person - by flying out to attend the Games in Australia! With only 131 days to go to Melbourne 2006, Clydesdale Bank, a proud sponsor of the Scottish Commonwealth Games Team, has put together a world-class ‘Get behind the team’ prize draw package that is set to get hearts racing - the chance for someone to fly to Melbourne with a friend, where they will be put up in a hotel and given tickets to attend three Commonwealth Games events. “Scots are a very proud nation of people, particularly when it comes to sport and national competitions!” commented David Thorburn, Clydesdale’s Chief Operating Officer. “For our athletes, I am certain the knowledge that people back home are behind them 100% as they strive to reach their full potential can only spur them onto even greater success. That is why the ‘Get Behind The team’ text campaign is so important.” “The text campaign means that we have the support of people back home which is very important - especially as when we are in Melbourne we will be so far away from home.” Says Lee McConnell, member of the Scottish Commonwealth Games Team. “Knowing that people back home are supporting us boosts our spirits and can give us confidence and spur us on to perform better. When we competed in Manchester we didn’t know what the level of support was going to be so it was great to see so much support. The Clydesdale Bank text campaign will show the team before they even leave for Australia how much the public is supporting the team.” To send their encouragement to the team and enter the prize draw, people should text ‘support’ and their first name and surname to 81125. Texts will cost 25p with revenue going to the Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland. For those unable to text their support, a free postal alternative has set up - Freepost RLYG-CUKT-SBKT, National Australia Group, 3rd floor, 20 Merrion Way, Leeds LS2 8NZ While the draw will close on 30 December 2005, all names collected up until 15 February (one month to go until the start of the games) will be gathered together and presented to the Scottish Commonwealth Games team as they set off to compete in Melbourne 2006. In addition, special posters and banners bearing names and messages will be produced for the team’s HQ, Scotland House, which will help to continually remind athletes just how much support they have back home. “Having the support of the country behind the team is so important to us.” says Louise Martin, Chairman of The Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland. “Scotland is a proud nation and we know that with the support of the Scottish public, shown through Clydesdale Bank’s “Text your Support” campaign, this will give the team a huge amount of confidence leading up to and into the games. So come on Scotland, text your support and you too could be in Melbourne in March!”
