Team Changes
7 December 2005

The Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland (CGCS) confirmed today that basketball player Robert Archibald has withdrawn from the 2006 Scottish Commonwealth Games team due to injury. Robert, who plays for Spanish club DKV Joventut, is currently playing with an injury and it is not anticipated that it will improve enough for his club to release him for the Games.

Commenting Archibald said: “Due to club commitments in Spain in March and having dealt with a serious injury so far this season it is with regret that I have had to withdraw from the Scotland team for Melbourne 2006. It is disappointing that I will not be able to represent Scotland in such a major event as the Commonwealth Games and compete against world-class teams such as Australia and New Zealand. I felt that it was important to inform the coaches as early as possible to ensure that the team was able to make the necessary changes and best prepare for the Games. I am looking forward to being involved in with the Scotland team in the future.”

Ross Campbell (Glasgow) has been selected as his replacement from the list of non-travelling reserves agreed with Basketball Scotland.

In addition Paralympic medallist swimmer, Lara Ferguson (Aberdeen) has also reluctantly withdrawn from the team. Sadly, Lara has had a reoccurrence of the illness that affected her after the Athens Paralympics and feels unable to prepare herself properly for the Games.

We wish them both well with their recovery.
