Arriving in Glasgow on Easter Sunday, 27th March, the Queen's Baton has been in Scotland for a 4 day period. The Baton was taken to the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow's Science Centre, Tollcross Pool and Hampden Park on Easter Monday. Tuesday began with a visit to the home of Rugby 7's - Melrose, where enthusiastic pupils from Melrose Primary visited Melrose Rugby Club for some tuition from Scotland's 7s coach, Rob Moffat. The next halt on a whistlestop tour was Edinburgh Castle where Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Leslie Hinds, joined it for a photo opportunity by the One O'clock Gun. From there the Baton was taken to Stirling where sponsors, Clydesdale Bank, arranged a staff relay around the city. The day culminated in a CGCS Thistle Club reception in the Court Room at the University of Stirling, with former Commonwealth and Olympic sprinter, Allan Wells bringing in the Baton to commence the proceedings. The highly sophisticated Baton which contains a minature webcam, is fitted with a global positioning system so that it can be tracked on its journey. It will visit each of the 71 countries of the Commonwealth on its epic voyage before arriving at the Melbourne Cricket Ground for the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony on 15th March 2006.
