Discus thrower, Kirsty Law, was today named as the first recipient of the Army sponsored 'Athlete of the Month Award'. Kirsty, who is a member of the Inverness Harriers exceeded the Commonwealth Youth Games Qualifying Standard of 39.40m by over 2 metres in her first comnpetition of the season, with a throw of 42.07m. She is the current Scottish and AAA Discus Champion for her age group and is currently ranked No 1 in the UK. She is also currently ranked No 1 in the Scottish Senior Rankings. The Army, sponsors of the Scotland Commonwealth Youth Games Team, is awarding a training grant of £200 each month for the most outstanding performance by a young athlete during each month in the run up to the Youth Games at the end of November. There will also be an award for the Young Athlete of the Games. |
