Sports Minister Patricia Ferguson today congratulated Scotland’s swimmers on a phenomenal performance at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Australia, winning a total of 30 medals. Every member of the fourteen-strong squad will return to Scotland with at least one medal. Speaking from Bendigo, the Minister praised the swimmers for their outstanding effort and dedication. “This is a wonderful achievement for our young swimmers" said Ferguson. "They have finished second to Australia in the swimming medals table. That in itself is exceptional. “They have been magnificent ambassadors for Scotland, and great credit to themselves and their families, many of whom have travelled to Australia to cheer on their sons and daughters. “I am very proud of all our young athletes competing here. It looks as if Scotland’s total medals haul will exceed what was achieved in Edinburgh four years ago.”
